90+ reasons to work with a Career Coach

Our work life and careers are important and not just because of the income. We find meaning, purpose, status, and job satisfaction through our work – it gives us a place in the world.

What’s the point in working with a career coach when maybe you can get free advice over a 20-minute coffee with a headhunter?

And If you’ve got a thorny issue, lost your mojo or your confidence surely Google can help you sort it out?

But I get it, I made do too, I put things off, got distracted by headhunters, but in the end, I succumbed to getting help from an expert and I haven’t looked back. If something is holding you back from feeling happy at work don’t suffer in silence.

Self-worth, Leadership and your career

Self-worth comes up a lot in my client conversations. If you don’t feel good about yourself it shows, so I help my clients with their mindset and confidence and the conventional career coaching stuff.

Self-worth is the value you give to your life and achievements. It helps you to trust your judgement and make better decisions and the good news is that it’s cultivated from within.

There’s no point in having a great CV if you don’t value yourself, right?

In this blog, you’ll find guidance on how to support and nurture your self-worth and that includes making a brag file. Make your health and wellbeing a personal priority and see how that lifts your self-worth too.

And when it comes to self-worth and leadership. Don’t assume that the person at the top has it, watch out for the tell-tale signs.

What to do when you're searching for a new job and you've run out of leads

Running out of leads in the middle of a job search is inevitable – it happens to everyone. At the beginning of a search, you feel motivated and excited, but as time passes your enthusiasm wanes.

The most frustrating part is that you know there are jobs out there somewhere!

In this post, I’ve reverse-engineered the research method I use to find candidates into a system that you can use to find a job. It’s a simple, step by step guide and there’s a download to my FREE guide – ‘How to get headhunted’.

The Career Accelerator – will it work for me?

In this post, I shared three case studies to show how I personalise and adapt my work for each client using The Career Accelerator (my signature process).

  1. Alex worked with me to make sense of his redundancy and explore options as he was frustrated that headhunters had him ‘pigeon-holed’. He signed me up as his coach, sounding board, to keep him accountable and to help him find his spark again.

  2. Mark had been job hunting for a year before he hired me. He was stressed out and under pressure at home. I ripped apart his search process, got him back on track, taught him how to sell the right story and boosted his confidence. All of this had a positive result on his self-esteem and a ripple effect on his home life.

  3. Jo was struggling with imposter syndrome and a career that had plateaued. She hired me as her executive coach. She was up for a challenge and ready to face some midlife career concerns.

You can read about the problems, solutions and most importantly, the results in the blog.

*All names are changed as I value trust and confidentiality.

How to use your redundancy to upgrade your career

You know that losing your job through a company restructure or a business going into administration isn’t personal so why does it feel that way?

Rationally you know job losses are inevitable but emotionally it hurts. It feels like a rejection. Maybe you weren’t good enough?

That feeling can gnaw away at your confidence and mess up your job search. I’ve seen it in action.

Redundancy comes with a rollercoaster of emotions, but it’s also an opportunity to pause and reset your priorities and path. In this post, I outlined how you can use redundancy positively and give your career an upgrade.

You're not a failure – it's your job search that's failed, not you!

When things are going to plan, job hunting is great. It’s exciting and incredibly flattering to be courted by recruiters and companies. However, when it’s not it’s frustrating, miserable and lonely,

“My self-esteem is rock bottom now after being made redundant over a year ago and having not been able to get back in the saddle I’ve struggled to get my mojo back workwise. Do you think you can help?”

In this blog I wrote another example of how to revitalise a failed search.

The September Issue – is it time for a change?

September is always associated with change, a new season, back-to-school, and the largest edition of Vogue. September 2021 felt a bit flat. Nothing much was happening – life was on hold.

How do you sell yourself when you’ve been furloughed or made redundant?

How do you talk about achievements and results when the big juicy projects are shelved?

And how do you raise your profile when you’re WFH?
