Career Clarity Questions
It’s the beginning of a new year – one of the best times to create fresh plans.
I’m excited about that – are you?
Working with my career coaching client always feels exciting.
Something about shedding the old, outdated ways and thinking. It's a bit like a snake shedding its skin to allow for more growth.
But even if you’re not working with a coach you can still set the wheels in motion for change and growth.
Have you ever tried coaching yourself?
Here’s a suggestion:
If you're not done so already set aside time for career clarity.
Book out 30 minutes in your diary (if you can spare an hour - even better!)
On the day you’ve planned create a space at home where you can relax undisturbed – if that’s not going to happen take yourself off to a local café.
A notepad and pen are all you’ll need (trust me old fashioned free writing is the key).
Then work through these questions at a leisurely pace:
What are you hoping to achieve this year through your work/career?
Looking back over the previous year – what were your personal highlights?
What feedback and praise do you consistently get from others?
If you could change anything about your life what would you change?
What’s stopping you?
What are your career goals for the next 1-3 years?
What are you doing towards them?
Finally, here’s your homework from me:
What small step can you make over the next month? Next three months?
Rinse and repeat this process as often as needed but especially at the start of a new year, springtime and ready for back to school (September).
